The Full-Body Fat Fix: The Science-Based 7-Day Plan to … (2025)

"The Full-Body Fat Fix" is allegedly a "science-based 7-Day Plan to cool inflammation, heal your gut, and build a healthier, leaner you!"

It hasn't been 7 days yet, but I am not sold on the author Stephen Perrine's messaging.

Eating at least 30 different plants each week is in the author's 7-Day Plan. (Great suggestion!)

Yet, the author strongly advocates eating whey protein.

Whey protein is not a plant and, therefore, is a protein source that was off-limits to this vegan.

The author also advocates removing sugar from one's diet in this 7-Day Plan, yet he approves eating ice cream for dessert. (Huh???)

I listened to the audiobook read by Dr. Roshini Raj and Stephen Perrine.

The entire last half of the book was devoted to reading recipes.

Recipes are very difficult to transcribe when listening to an audiobook.

The audiobook was accompanied by a downloadable PDF that I assumed would include worksheets for the 7-Day Plan, recipes, and a list of the 30 recommended vegetables.

None of these were included. (UGH!)

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was not the right book for a fastidious vegan seeking a full-body fat fix!

4.5 Stars!

Kids, I'm getting old. I remember where I was when 2 Pac died and 9/11. Some of yall weren't even alive when either of those things happened. As I age I realize that I should actually start caring about my health. Despite my lack of care for my health, I'm surprisingly healthy...even if I don't look like it. But the last couple of years have made me more worried and my health and the health of those I love. My mom died at age 58 and that age doesn't seem so old to me. Covid took out several family members. My sister almost died 3 years ago from a heart related illness and my dad recently had a health scare. Luckily my dad and sister are now perfectly healthy but it's still been an extremely stressful time.

I'm lazy, so I struggle with staying committed to things( and people). I think about and plan fitness programs on the regular but I usually lose interest after a few months or my disordered eating comes back.

Why fast for 8 hours, when I can fast for 2 days?

Why eat more clean, when I can take laxatives?

Why exercise 5 days a week for 45 minutes, when can exercise 7 days a week for 4 hours and still obsess over how I should exercise even more?

Basically my brain hates me and is always trying to ruin my life. So I struggle with getting healthy while not falling back into extremely unhealthy patterns. But I still need to try because middle age is getting closer and closer( my 86 yr old aunt says I'm very young and I cling to that). I'm tried of feeling bad and something has to change before my health luck runs out. I've read several articles about inflammation and I have lots of the systems of an inflamed body. Ive heard very good things about the author of The Full Body Fat Fix's other book The Whole Body Reset. It's not a major overhaul or a crash diet. With the plan in this book you can still eat fast food and you don't need to be a gourmet chef to make the recipes. The author Stephen Perrine also points out that income pays a major role in weight and health.

The basic tenets of this plan are that you're not Fat, you're body is on fire with inflammation. The best way to combat this is with more fruits and vegetables and with building muscle. And by doing small things to improve your health.

Now will I be successful with this plan?

Who knows. I am incredibly lazy and I'm a major sugar addict but I have faith that I can eat more vegetables and move more. So wish me luck everyone.

I'm not going to recommend a diet to anyone but this plan is less toxic than others I've read about.

"The Full-Body Fat Fix" by Stephen Perrine offers a simple and effective way to improve your health, fitness and well-being through a science-based 7-day plan to cool inflammation, heal your gut, and build a healthier, leaner body

The author explains how chronic inflammation and an unhealthy microbiome are the root causes of many health problems and weight gain, and how eating a variety of plant-based foods can help restore balance and harmony in your body. The book provides easy-to-follow protocols, recipes, and practical tips to help you achieve this.

I tried the 7-day program (and continued with the habits for the rest of Januar adding back in more whole grains) and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to follow. I had a protein smoothie for breakfast, eliminated sweets, ate 30 different whole plants, had one whole grain serving a day, and exercised 3 times a week. I felt lighter, had a flatter midsection, and stopped craving sugar. It was the perfect way to start the new year after indulging during the holidays.

The book is not without a few limitations, though. There are no photos of the recipes, which would have been helpful to visualize the dishes. The eating-out suggestions are mostly centred on American chains, which might not be available or appealing to everyone. And if you are expecting a dramatic weight loss in a short time, you might be disappointed. The book is more about improving your health and wellness than losing weight quickly. The title is a bit misleading and sensational, as it promises a quick fix that might not be realistic or sustainable.

That said, I would still recommend this book to anyone who wants to reset their diet and eat more plant-based. It is an informative and engaging read, showing you how to make simple changes that can have a big impact on your health and happiness. It is not a diet, but a lifestyle. And it is one that I plan to continue beyond the 7 days.

This was an ARC review for NetGalley.

What I like: easy-to-understand, a straightforward plan, helps me to be more mindful about what I eat.

What I don't like: Conflicting messages, disputable research, slightly condescending, doesn't stand out from other books in the genre.

Rating as a movie: PG for science vocabulary and some profanity

Quotes: Well, what you’re seeing in the bathroom mirror when your gums bleed is not unlike what’s happening in your gut when your microbiome becomes unbalanced. The lining of your gut becomes inflamed, much like the tissues of your gums. Imagine your gut lining as like a fine mesh, one that allows water and nutrients to flow through, but keeps everything else in its place. As it becomes irritated, the lining swells, and those fine flow points get stretched, creating gaps. At that point, bacteria and their various compounds begin to enter the bloodstream.

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🥕🥔🍅🍠🍆🫑🥒

My thoughts: 🔖Page 23 of 258 [Chapter] 1 How Inflammation Makes Us Sick, Bloated, and Unhappy - I have the audio to accompany this ebook and it's read by the author/s and is fantastic but I can't read and absorb the information at the depth I would like at this sleep level, so I'm switching back to my fictional audiobook for now.
🔖75 (somewhere in Chapter 3) The 7-Day Challenge Tracking Log- The audiobook reads out of order, it reads Chapter 1 without the article, skipping pages 25 & 34, then jumping back to them after page 32, then returning to page 37. Not fun for dual reading. I already paused the audiobook to read those sections. By Chapter 2 I figured it out though. I just needed a nap, now I really am switching to my other book. I'm thrilled there is a list of plants to eat.
🔖133 [Chapter] 8 Eat This Program … Anywhere! - This is good information. I'm already dreaming up my new shopping list, and mentally canceling vitamin subscriptions.

This was very good, I mean I think my salad from Salata covers half of the 30, but I'm already adding extra plants to my diet today. Spaghetti squash and spinach for dinner tonight. I was surprised how bacon was thrown under the bus and then appeared in one of the restaurant meals, unnecessarily imo. My biggest issue was the exercises had no pictures to demonstrate them, the descriptions weren't helpful enough visuals were needed. Other than that fantastic book.

Recommend to others: Yes. This book is very helpful and informative, despite coming from the Eat This Not That guy, he denounces those diets in this book.

As more and more research comes out about diseases that are inflammatory based such as diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimers, it only makes sense to make sure that I am doing everything possible to decrease that inflammation. For most of my life, I have dealt with aches, pains and fatigue and have been told everything from it is depression to lose weight. While I can’t disagree with either of those assessments, I have been convinced for quite some time that the root cause is in my gut. I just wasn’t sure how to fix it nor was I getting answers from my primary care doctors so I stopped asking. (Yes, I also agree that this is a problem with our health system as it is).

This book is not groundbreaking information. Eat more fruits, vegetables, lean meats and seafood and healthy fats. Exercises should include resistance training. Eat the rainbow. Do not exclude groups of macronutrients. However. what this books brings to the table that is new to me is the extensive research that tells me why this is important and directly links it to chronic inflammation, the diseases it can cause and some of the symptoms I have regularly. This book provides easy, clear steps to make improvements with requiring complicated tracking, meal subscriptions, or supplements. It also includes recipes that don’t seem difficult. Overall, a seemingly accessible and risk free thing to try to see if I feel better. If you need me, I will be here trying to expand my variety of fruits and vegetables in my diet

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

The Full-Body Fat Fixby Stephen Perrine, narrated by Dr. Roshini Raj and the author himself, is a compelling addition to the health and wellness genre. This book stands out with its science-based approach to weight loss, focusing on the role of inflammation and gut health in achieving a healthier and leaner physique.

Perrine’s narrative is informative and engaging, making complex scientific concepts accessible to the average reader. The book’s central premise is that traditional dieting methods often overlook the critical factors of inflammation and gut health, which are essential for sustainable weight loss and overall well-being.

The7-Day Planis laid out with clarity and precision, offering readers a practical guide to transforming their eating habits. The plan encourages the consumption of a diverse range of plant-based foods, aiming for at least 30 different plants each week. This variety is not only nutritionally beneficial but also keeps the diet interesting and enjoyable.

What sets this book apart is its emphasis on the quality of food rather than calorie counting. The inclusion of delicious recipes makes the journey towards health a delightful experience. TheFire Fightin’ Five, a set of meals and snacks including a surprisingly healthy pizza, exemplifies the book’s approach to enjoyable yet nutritious eating.

The audiobook format adds an extra layer of convenience and accessibility, with Dr. Roshini Raj and Stephen Perrine’s narration bringing a personal touch to the experience. Their clear and soothing voices guide the listener through the program, making it feel like a personal consultation rather than a mere reading.

In conclusion,The Full-Body Fat Fixis a refreshing take on the weight loss narrative. It’s a book that doesn’t just promise quick fixes but educates and empowers readers to make lasting changes. For anyone looking to cool inflammation, heal their gut, and embark on a healthier lifestyle, Perrine’s book could very well be the catalyst for that transformation.

The Full-Body Fat Fix is the most recent book on health by Stephen Perrine. This book challenges you to change the way you eat for 7 days and see how much that can change the way your body works.

The gist of this is that everything boils down to having a healthy and diverse microbiome. To do this, Perrine says that you need to eat a more plant-based diet (but don't confuse that for a plant ONLY diet). He recommends eating 30 DIFFERENT types of plants over the course of a week. Now, for me, that would be hard to do, as most of the plant-based foods he lists are foods I won't/don't eat. He also says to have 25-30 grams of Protein at every meal and highly encourages you to have a whey protein smoothie for breakfast every morning. Also, you should have at least one healthy fat with every meal. This is a lot of individual foods to keep track of, and I'm a person who loves lists and tracking things. Although this book was educational and laid things out in an easy-to-understand way, I personally will not be following this program.

On the plus side, he does say that if you can get your microbiome to be filled with healthy and diverse microbes, it will not only help with weight loss, but with inflammation, depression & anxiety, blood pressure & cholesterol, and Alzheimer's & dementia. If I understood him correctly (and remember right, which I could totally be getting this wrong), most of those ailments are created by inflammation, which starts with an unhealthy microbiome.

All in all, this was an interesting read about how the body works. Although I will not be doing this program, I may use some of what I've learned to make some changes to my diet (as I am an overweight person) but I'm definitely not giving up my sweet tea...and like many others, he says sugar is bad.

Thank you to @StMartinsPress for a physical ARC for review consideration. All opinions are honest and my own.

I ACTUALLY TRIED THE DIET so you may want to read my review before buying this book!

Feeding your microbiome a variety of plants in order to make the bacteria more healthy and diverse really makes sense to me. The studies about people with better gut flora were fascinating- they could eat more calories and absorb less of them, they have less diabetes and depression and inflammation! But then Perrine added on a diet and workout plan to be done for the first seven days. The diet was far more extreme than the evidence-based stuff he spent the whole book describing. You couldn’t have any sugar besides from fruit (not even artificial sweetener), only one serving of a whole grain per day, eat at least 30 unique plants in the week, and 25 grams of protein per meal. He said no calorie restrictions, eat as much as you want and you’ll lose 5 pounds. I did this and lost NO weight and also experienced brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, and keto-mouth (so gross). I ate SO MUCH food because my body was constantly telling me I was missing something (carbs). It’s a shame this book couldn’t just be about the microbiome, the weight loss aspect really ruined it for me. Thank you for the gifted copy, St Martin’s Press- I learned a lot!
🥦
Here’s what I made:
🫐 Berry Nice- I liked it at first, but the grapefruit flavor got old fast.
🍒 My Cherry Amour- this one was much better. Mixed berries with nuts and chocolate. You can’t go wrong!
🍓 The Spinach and Strawberry- huge filling salad. I liked it all besides the tarragon which would be easy to omit in the future. Nice textures and flavors that go together.
🫘 Tom’s Big Game Day Chili- even my kids liked this one. Just a standard bean and meat chili. Really good with sour cream!
🥜 Peanut Noodles with Confetti Veggies and Chicken- mango is blended into the sauce in place of sugar and it was actually so good. Loved the sauce. Loved the veggies. I’m a peanut noodle fan so I have high expectations and this really worked!

Recently I’ve found it more and more intriguing to read and learn how our bodies function with nutrition, physical activity, and age. When THE FULL-BODY FAT FIX arrived {thanks, @stmartinspress partner!} I was curious how it would shed new light on the gut and inflammation.

As someone who has experienced the effects of gut inflammation, I am very intrigued how to heal the gut naturally, and Perrine’s new release dives into the microbiome and the bacteria that resides there, as well as how the foods we eat can impact the health of our microbiomes.

I found the inflammation information to be insightful and I enjoyed digging deeper into the microbiome and its residing bacteria. I don’t partake in the idea of a “7-day diet/plan” but, I found the basis for the information to be informative.

The chapter regarding inflammation and Alzheimer’s is worth the entire book. I highly recommend the reading and research studies cited.

The most interesting note I found is that Kombucha is not healthy for your gut. It seems to go against the trends, right? Want to guess why it’s not healthy?

If you are interested in managing your health naturally, through foods, and learning more about the gut, you may enjoy reading TF-BFF. It cites many medical sources and research studies, for those that lay importance on this information.

I liked to listen to audiobooks while I run and since I already had this one in hardcover, I figured listening to the audio and flipping through the recipes would be a good way to consume The Full-Body Fat Fix. I’m not a huge meat eater and I mostly avoid dairy, so a lot of the suggested foods are just not my cup of tea, but the overall philosophy is interesting. At times it’s a little fear-mongering, though. I take a daily probiotic. I have for 10+ years and don’t plan to stop. I travel more than half the month for work, so my food choices are often repetitive and simple. I’m an avid runner. I liked the tips to incorporate plants and I’ll definitely be trying to smoothly recipe, but I don’t think any book could make me throw my entire lifestyle out the window. Overall, this is a pretty healthy diet book IMO. I’ve struggled with multiple EDs the majority of my life and I didn’t find this to be triggering or upsetting. It’s pretty straight forward and you can take or leave what you like. Don’t let the fear of muscle loss, potential “dementia causing” foods, or obsession with dairy seep in too deep. 3.5 rounded up for physical over audio (hard to catch all the recipes and hear “belly bugs” over & over in audio.)

The Full-Body Fat Fix: The Science-Based 7-Day Plan to Cool Inflammation, Heal Your Gut, and Build a Healthier, Leaner You!
Author and narrator: Stephen Perrine

Stephen Perrine narrates his audiobook and his enthusiasm is appreciated for what could have been a semi dry book. When audiobooks have lots of recipes my mind can want to blank out on them, especially since I was on the treadmill while listening to this book. But, Stephen would be glad to know I was still listening well enough to catch that he listed "one small child" as an ingredient in one of his recipes. Couldn't catch me off guard, Stephen!

I eat a plant based diet with the regular additions of Greek yogurt and fish while I have chicken and beef occasionally. I already eat at least thirty different plants each week, way more than that actually, so a lot of this eating plan was not hard for me to accomplish. Still, because I'm as nerdy about the way I eat (along with my husband who often is the one who helps me stay on track due to a lack of emotional eating on his part) as I am about my other interests in life, I loved that this book reminded me of all the plants that I was forgetting or that I wasn't eating as much as I could be eating them. So this book has opened up my daily menu when it comes to plants and not getting into a rut eating the same plants over and over without branching out to others regularly.

This plan also relies heavily on whey protein which I've used from time to time. I have no interest in using it as much as Stephen suggests here but he offers ideas and substitutions for vegans and vegetarians. I do add a good amount of protein from the fish and Greek yogurt I eat weekly but I also get it from the combinations of plant foods I eat regularly and from plant foods that make up complete proteins. The reason I mention protein is because it's a very important part of this food plan and the plan focuses on getting the most protein at breakfast. That's there the whey smoothies come in, providing a more breakfast like protein meal base than most non meat breakfasts might provide.

Stephen explains why a wide variety of plants are so very important towards providing the gut microbes we need to heal our gut, keep it healthy, and reverse inflammation in our bodies. Lots of recipes are provided, lots of suggestions for eating out, also details for an exercise plan that will work towards losing less muscle as we age. After I downloaded this book I was sent a PFD with a detailed list of meals and places to get them while eating out. The many recipes and exercises weren't included in the PDF so that is where getting the print or digital book to accompany the audiobook would be a good idea.

For me, this book is a motivator even if I personally use much less salt and added sugars than are suggested in these menus and recipes. This is not a plan that tells you to never have this or that, instead it's steering you toward healthier choices on a daily basis. That's the kind of plan I can use to encourage friends and family. Really, it's easier than one would think to get in thirty different plants a week and this book will show you how easy it is to do while getting to enjoy some delicious meals.

The Full-Body Fat Fix by Stephen Perrine – what started out as potentially helpful ended up a big disappointment. Perrine draws readers in with concepts that make sense, but astute readers will catch discrepancies such as “Almond milk is the nutritional equivalent of water, except in cases where it’s been fortified” (pg. 43) then, in the very next section, shares recipes that recommend almond milk. That transgression aside, readers may believe they have found something that might actually work for them as they read “As long as you’re following the Full-Body Fat Fix, and starting each day with 30 grams of protein, you’ll maximize the efficacy of this plan.” (pg. 168). Up until this point Perrine periodically mentions that an exercise plan should also be implemented. That makes perfect sense, but then goes on to recommend “The best setting for this workout is a gym.” (pg. 170). Although some at home suggestions were later made, the damage had been done. Readers who work their way through this book may find a few helpful tips here and there, others will feel like they just spent too much time with a salesman who only reveals the truth when pressed.

I made the mistake of asking for this one in audio form first…which doesn’t really work, as he’s reading the recipes… so it’s very difficult to follow…

I did later ask for it as an e-book, and the concept actually sounds good, although I have not tried the recipes as yet. But, if you are looking for a way to lose some weight that’s kind of new and seems to be somewhat easy to follow, I’d definitely recommend taking a look at this book! And he states that it will help with inflammation as well, so that’s definitely a bonus for me!

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me! Sounds intriguing, and I’m hoping to start making some of th recipes soon!

I received this book as a review copy, and it is not normally the type of book that I would pick up. However, while we don't struggle with body fat we do struggle with inflammation and autoimmune disorders, which this book also address at length.

We have not yet tried out the full 7-day plan as outlined in the book, but we have tried several of the recipes. The recipes are great and we have already begun varying our diet to include at least 30 different plants a week. It was much easier than we thought!

This isn't as much of a diet book as it is a gut balancing book.

This review copy was provided by the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review. Huge thanks to St. Martins Press for my review copy!

You know those college textbooks that you studied, highlighted, underlined, and made flashcards for? This book is full of the kind of information that you want to do just that to its pages.

I love lists and for the 7-Day challenge, the author has a handy list of power plants to eat during the challenge, with a goal of having at least 30 of them in one week. Going to a restaurant? There are recommended dishes that tend to be healthier options listed here. There are also recipes, exercises, and much more. Diets may be hard to stick to, but we can all try a 7-day plan to build a healthier body.

I liked this book that it explains well what inflammation is and how it affects us. And surprisingly, it doesn’t suggest any crazy changes in your eating/exercise habits. It only tells how best to tune them. For example, for my hormone issues is important to eat lots of protein. But this book suggests that we need to start the day with the biggest portion of protein (for various reasons). That’s easy to adjust! Another easy suggestion - trying to eat diverse foods (goal is to reach 30 different foods). For example, instead of eating a handful of same nuts - better to eat 5 different nuts. I just don’t like the title - annoyingly reminds of books about fad diets…

While this was a new way of looking at obesity through the microbiome of the gut, this book offered information that isn't new, at least to me. Eat a food plan that is filled with variety and not just the same thing every single day. This focuses on our gut and the organisms living in us. How inflammation occurs when our gut is out of alignment.
For someone who doesn't have the benefit of a background that includes knowledge in food science, this book is extremely useful.

I won this book as a Goodreads giveaway. Right out of the gate I liked the book because it didn't drag you through 50% of it with simply build up to the core of the core of the program. This jumped pretty quickly into the concepts that would be implemented in the 7 day plan. On the surface it seems simple, but hitting the target is harder than it sounds. I would say that you should plan for a least two grocery trips your first week to be able to get your numbers in fresh produce. I like that it sets up a game mentality in terms of adding fruits and vegetables to your eatting habits.

I love the parts of this book that are focused on interesting research on eating plants and your micro biome. It very informative and easy to read. The parts that transform into a “weight loss program” aren’t my favorite… Overall though i learned a lot and it has already altered how i view foods. i’ve increased the diversity of what i eat too!

biggest takeaway: each meal aim to eat 2 power plants, 25-30 grams of protein, and “power fats” like dairy, fish, nuts, avocado, and olives.

when buying packaged foods use the simple formula Protein + Fiber > Sugar

I borrowed this in the audiobook format. I plan to purchase a hardcover version soon because it will be a good resource and to have access to the recipes.

The title is the only thing kept me from awarding five stars. Full-Body Fat Fix seems designed to grab those the attention of those seeking the next hot miracle fad diet. That’s the opposite of what this is, what seems like sound science backed up with multiple studies. I resent the dumbing down to appeal to the lowest common denominator-even if it does sell more books.

This book has a wealth of science backed information on how to reduce inflammation from foods in your diet. I loved the research and facts shared with a simple 7 day approach to get you on the road to healthier living. It’s the kind of book you will keep referencing as you incorporate the strategies into your lifestyle. My only recommendation would be more handy tracking tools or checklists to help you get started.

Thanks to Goodreads for the giveaway copy! I normally don't read diet books but this one peeked my interest. I liked that they gave a plan to follow along with various recipes and groceries to get. Although I do not like or cannot eat some of the foods the author mentioned, it gave me a guideline of similar things I should be consuming. It didn't read like a typical "diet" book which I appreciated.

Despite the cringe-worthy title, I liked this book! The research on inflammation and gut health is a topic I’ve been seeking information on since being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and this was easy to understand and interesting. The plan is nothing new (eat diverse fruits and veggies, resistance training, increase protein, etc) but the recipes and meal plans helped me visualize the day to day and plan for the grocery store.

This book begins with the relationship of a weak microbiome (with beneficial bacteria for digestion) to inflammation and diseases, such as diabetes and obesity. It can be improved with the addition of super plants. There are lots of recipes and they all appear to be doable. If diet and exercise are not working for you, you might want to try this!

Although I have read many healthy lifestyle books, this one was an easy read. Sometimes the message is lost in a lot of scientific jargon. A good explanation with lengthy research facts to back it up is good if you have had a good education in science but the average person does not. This book provides an easy introduction to creating a healthy lifestyle.

A completely new (to me) way at looking at obesity as a symptom of inflammation. Offers a very doable program to heal inflammation and see the weight melt away. The delicious recipes themselves are worth the price of admission. Highly recommended!
