Harvard Explosion: Two Men Arrested for Firework Blast on Campus (2025)

Two men, 18-year-old Logan David Patterson and 20-year-old Dominick Frank Cardoza, were arrested in connection with an explosion at Harvard Medical School. The incident, which occurred on November 1, involved the use of a Roman candle-style firework, causing a fire alarm to go off at around 2:45 a.m. in the Goldenson Building. The suspects, seen on surveillance footage wearing face coverings, climbed over a chain-link fence, entered a construction zone, and accessed the building's roof via scaffolding. They then set off the firework and fled through an emergency exit in opposite directions. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and Harvard University Police Department made the arrests the following morning. No injuries were reported, and property damage was minimal, attributed to the building's unoccupied status at the time. The suspects' actions were described as 'selfish,' 'short-sighted,' and a federal crime. The public's anxiety was heightened by the intentional nature of the explosion, especially in the Boston area, where the memory of the Boston Marathon bombing still lingers. The suspects attempted to dispose of their identifying clothing, with Cardoza seen removing his pants and throwing them in a garbage bin, which investigators recovered. The men are not from the Boston-area colleges, and several parties were held in the area on Halloween night. The public's vigilance led to the identification of the suspects by law enforcement after their photos were released.
